Back to Iceland
Six years after a single day on the south coast, a second trip in 2023: a red crater, ash-banded icebergs, heavy surf and humpbacks off the north coast.
The first trip, in September 2017, was a single day between Reynisfjara and Skógar. The second, in 2023, covered more ground: the crater lake at Kerið, the icebergs of Jökulsárlón, heavy surf along the coast and the whale-watching boats out of Húsavík in the north.
Spray off the crest · 64° N · 2023
Spray off the crest is in black and white, a wave curling in front of a dark sea stack with spray blowing off its top. On the water, a humpback lifted its tail in low sun as it dived.
