Long bio · 162 words

Stuart Derman is a landscape and wildlife photographer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He got his first camera at seven or eight, started on film and moved to digital, and has had a camera with him ever since. His work keeps returning to wild coasts, high country and cold places, and to the light at either end of the day. His collection Svalbard was made in May 2024 at 81° N, where the sun does not set in spring, with long lenses and from a distance so the foxes, seabirds, seals and walruses carried on as they were. It is available to galleries and venues as the exhibition 81° N. His other collections cover Utah, Iceland, Ireland, the American West, the Waddington Range in British Columbia, Italy and the Namosi Valley in Fiji. Stuart founded Wasatch Mountain Arts, a nonprofit that supports the film community, and runs the Wasatch Mountain Film Festival. Away from the camera, he builds and runs companies.
